Using iPads with Swim Jewelry Software

Wondering how to use tablets and iPads in the store over the holidays?

Here's four suggestions to get you started:

  1. Helping a client find what they want:
Ask the client what they are looking for, and on the tablet, in find stock, search for the type of item. Use fields like department, category, metal, the item description. (You can also use price if you click 'advanced') Then show the client the results and click on the pictures to bring up a larger picture of the item. If the client then wants to see the item, you can see in Swim whether the item is in stock or not. If it is in stock and you use the 'location' field in Swim, you can then go directly to the location and find the item.
Note: Be sure to use a sales user when performing this so the client does not see cost price. You can even create a special user that everyone uses when showing items on the iPad/tablet. This way you can use the 'user access log' to view that user and see how often you are showing clients pieces on the iPad/tablet.
  2. Speeding up your sales process:
No client likes to wait to checkout and pay, and come clients will even leave the store and buy from another store if they have to wait too long. iPads and tablets are a great way to record a sale from anywhere on the floor and saves having one large queue at your point of sale terminal. Simply process the sale in Swim on the iPad or tablet in the exact same way you would process on the point of sale terminal. You can even ask the client if they would like the receipt emailed to them (this saves paper, ensures they have a copy in case they need to return the goods and allows you to collect their email address).
  3. Accessing client information in realtime:
When a spouse or family member comes into the store looking for a present for one of your existing clients, you can bring up the clients profile in Swim on the screen of the iPad/tablet with all the items the client has purchased before. This way you can speak with confidence to the spouse or family member, going over what the client already has and what items you have in stock that will match their collection. If you have the finger size details filled in, you can also have any rings purchased resized to the correct size.
  4. Quickly access stock details:
These days clients like information, and want to know as much about an item as possible. If a client is looking at a piece, you can bring up on the iPad/tablet screen the details of the item, showing the customer the metal, diamond/gem properties etc. You can also show the certificate, if you are storing the certificate as a picture with the item.

That's four easy ways to get started with your iPad/tablet. You can use the special iPad/tablet barcode scanner, to make the processing of sales and finding of stock quick and easy. The scanner can also be used for stocktakes with the iPad/tablet and for small spot checks by counter. You can purchase the barcode scanner by emailing sales@octahedron.com.au or visiting the Swim Store.
